Day 4

Just a quickie today, 'cause dinner is getting fixed as we speak.

I woke up at noon today (oops!), so we got a bit of a late start. Went out to Loganlea for lunch-ish, then set off for the Hermitage. There's not a lot there, but it's a nice wee hike in, and there are some pretty good photo ops of the bridge there. That would've been a good time for Black and White, but naturally, I forgot to take that kind of film today. >_> Anyway, I'm wondering how the long exposures are going to turn out... probably not as sharp as they could be, because I didn't have a tripod. I had to rest the camera on things. But I only took 2 or 3 long ex's, so it's not like the whole roll is ruined.

Then we set off to the Spaldings' ancestral home of Ashintully Castle. It's hardly a castle, more like a very large, pretty old, 3-story farmhouse with a tower and made of stone. But it's called a castle, so... yeah. On the drive in, the closer we got, the more 'familiar' the landscape seemed. Well, not really familiar, just... right. Sort of like how Scotland calls me, but not quite as strong. But it was interesting. Didn't get to go in, though, cause the lady who owns it thought we were all American tourists, but we're thinking about renting the cottage on the side that she uses as a bed and breakfast for a week next year.

The drive down from the castle to Pitlochry is incredible. Well, it was for me. It just captures the Scottish spirit so well. It's a narrow road, but well-maintained, and curves around a bit, but not nearly as much as the other way in to the castle, and the descent into the town is just wonderful. Of course, once you get into Pitlochry itself, the whole bloody place is a damn tourist trap, but it's nice-looking just the same.

Then it was the drive home, which after Pitlochry was just the major roads and the familiar roads. Not nearly as interesting. Anyway, I'm thinking it's nearly dinner time, so I'll be off now.
